3383 Farmers On The Run After Collecting N364Million CBN Loans

Its payback time and 3,383 farmers are currently on the run after collecting 364Million naira loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

This was disclosed by Tanko Andami, the acting chairman Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria Taraba state chapter.

The loans were given to rice farmers under the umbrella of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) through the federal governments’ Rice production program.

According to the chairman, Tanko Andami, 3,383 farmers who benefited in the N364 million loan from the CBN for both 2018 and 2019 farming seasons in Taraba state are currently on the run while others have vehemently refused to pay back stating that the loan was a public allocation (gift) from the federal government.

“None of them, as I am talking with you, has refunded the facility extended to them, and many of them are on the run now,” he said.

Mr. Andami also noted that; in an effort to trace the beneficiaries, it was found that some of the farmers have purposely changed their contact details, while the few who were traced were deceased.

The beneficiaries of the CBN loans were from Lau, Gassol, Wukari, Karim-Lamido, Ardo-Kila, and Jalingo councils of Taraba state.
