EDO: 7 Candidate Set To Challenge Obaseki’s Victory, Say Election Nearly Imperfect

Seven governorship candidates in the just concluded Edo election, has disclosed their intentions to challenge in court, the victory of Gov. Godwin Obaseki, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over sighted abnormalities in the electoral process.

This was made known in a press briefing by some politician under the platform of the EDO 2020 GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES’ FORUM on Tuesday, October 6.

According to the candidates through their spokesperson Bishop Akhalamhe, said the Edo election was nearly running into perfection but some abnormalities has been sighted by the group.

He also noted that the group was challenging the outcome in order to give room for better improvement in subsequent elections.

A report by Business Day, has it that the group might not be challenging the election outcome individually but through a collective action by all governorship candidates.

“We are positive that, the election was near perfection, though some of the candidates are making arrangements to file their cases in the tribunal resulting from some abserved abnormalities in the conduct of the election, and the forum supports them in order to deepen our democracy”

“Filing a collective suit is also in consideration by this forum, and we may file our suit soonest.” the group spokesperson said.

The 7 governorship candidates also commended the Oba of Benin, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their vital roles played towards ensuring a peaceful election.
