I Will Deal Mercilessly With Those Assaulting Police Officers – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has shown a sincere dissatisfaction on Nigerian citizens for assaulting policemen enforcing the lockdown order in the country.

According to the Inspector, morethan 27 police officers were assaulted during the enforcement of the COVID-19 Locdown order by the federal government, while few others are badly injured and are receiving treatment in various hospitals in the country.

He also added that two police stations and police quarters were burnt down in Katsina and Abia States and a total of 15 police vehicles and motorcycles were also damaged within the period.

In a statement on sunday made by police spokeman, Frank Mba, The IGP urged citizens to cooperate and comply with police orders and also warned that the agency will no longer condone any further form of attacks on its members.

The statement reads in part:

“The IGP notes that since the commencement of the COVID-19 enforcement duties, a total of 27 police personnel have suffered series of attacks and assaults from members of the public at different times and locations.

“Many of these officers are still in hospitals receiving treatment from the injuries sustained during such attacks.”
