List of Masters Scholarships, and Grants, for International Students

A Master’s degree is a postgraduate academic credential awarded to people who have successfully completed coursework and shown a high level of knowledge in a particular field of study or area of professional practice.

Below is a list of Master’s scholarships, grants, and fellowships for international students.

Clarendon Fund Scholarships at the University of Oxford

At the University of Oxford, a sizable graduate scholarship program called The Clarendon Fund awards about 140 new scholarships each year. At the graduate level at the University of Oxford, Clarendon Scholarships are given out based on academic excellence and promise in all degree-granting fields.

All graduate-level degree-granting courses in any subject are acceptable. This includes all master’s and DPhil programmes, including full- and part-time.

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries

The commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s study in the UK are available for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

Gates Cambridge Scholarships for International Students

One of the most prominent international scholarships in the world is the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Outstanding candidates from outside the UK are given scholarships to attend the University of Cambridge full-time for a postgraduate degree in any field that is offered.

Courses that are NOT eligible for Gates Cambridge Scholarships:

Any Undergraduate degree such as BA (undergraduate) or BA affiliated (a second BA)

  • MASt courses (from September 2022)

AAUW International Fellowships in the USA for Women

AAUW (the American Association of University Women) awards International Fellowships for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited institutions are supported. Graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are eligible for this.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars at Stanford University

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University fosters a diverse, multidisciplinary community of up-and-coming leaders from all over the world and instructs them on how to work together, come up with new ideas, and communicate as they become ready to tackle society’s difficult problems. Through the King Global Leadership Program, students will increase their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and fortify their moral character through participation in community service projects, workshops, meetings with influential people, domestic and international study trips, and other opportunities for personal growth.


Full-time Masters and Ph.D. degrees in any subject offered at Stanford (for example, but not limited to, DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or Ph.D.) with some exceptions:

  • Applicants to the Honors Cooperative Program
  • Applicants to the Master of Liberal Arts
  • Applicants to the Doctor of Science of Law (JSD)
  • Current Stanford students applying for coterminal graduate study
  • Current Stanford Ph.D. students adding an MA or MS degree in their current discipline

British Chevening Scholarships in the UK for International Students

Chevening Scholarships are offered by the UK government and are supported by partner organizations and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The program awards master’s degrees in any field from any UK university to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from throughout the world.

UNIL Master’s Grants in Switzerland for Foreign Students

International students who intend to study a Master’s degree at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland may apply for the UNIL Master’s Grants on a competitive basis.

All Master’s programme from among those offered by the UNIL, except the following

  • Master from the School of Medicine
  • Master of Education
  • Master of Law*
  • Master of criminal Law, magistracy specialism
  • Master of Science in Physical Education and Sports Didactics
  • Master of Science in Health sciences
  • Master of Science (MSc) in Sustainable Management & Technology
  • All MASs (Ph.D. programmes)
