Tension Heightens as NASU, SSANU Begins 14days Nationwide strike over IPPIS

The Non-academic staff of university has on Monday 5 October commence a 14 days warning strike over the inconsistency of the federal government in paying its workers salaries through Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information, IPPIS by the federal government.

Recall that their counterpart association the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has been on strike over the federal government introduction and implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information, IPPIS.

The Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU together with the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU made this known in a statement jointly signed by their leaders and made available to IssuesNG on Sunday.

The statement reads in part:

“Kindly recall earlier information on the above subject matter wherein it was conveyed that the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU would embark on a 14-day industrial action immediately universities resume following the COVID-19 lockdown.

“Following the recent directives from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to Vice-Chancellors for the immediate resumption/safe reopening of universities, you are hereby directed to commence a 14-day warning strike effective from October 5 to 19, 2020.”

The two union also noted that the 14 days warning strike could turn out to be a full fledged strike if the federal government fails to address their grievances and become consistent in paying of its workers through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
